I typed in http://area51.stackexchange.com and I did not get redirected to the https version. Is this intentional or a bug?
The redirection works for stackoverflow and stackexchange

It redirects for me. Maybe the redirect has been corrected/added since you posted the question?

@klutt Is there a certain browser you are using that could potentially be the cause of whether or not the link is able to redirect? It is not working for me, and I am currently using Google Chrome.– Mr PieCommented Sep 2, 2018 at 14:40
https://area51.meta.stackexchange.com uses the HTTPS protocol but http://area51.stackexchange.com does not.
I think this may be that they have not installed a SSL Certificate on all servers or included it in the area51 subdomain
