I wonder if we can get the SE team to make an exception with so in Spanish with this requirement. I think it is safe to assume that we have many experts already committed, who cannot or don't want to participate on the English version of SO or any other English-based SE site.

  • @yms I don't think that would work. We had the same discussion at the Portuguese proposal, and it was turned down. In any case, until the devs finish the UI localization it won't really matter, because the site won't be launched at all. So take your time, and finish recruiting the remaining experts without haste.

Users with over 200 reputation are committing, it goes not so fast but it's growing after all. And as @mgibsonbr says SE haven't finished the i18n features yet. Anyway, just 14 guys more and it would be done. By the way, I just posted on G+ some posts linking the proposal.

  • Anyway, even if you has fulfilled the criteria, it will require some time before getting to the next level. See the Portugesh proposal for example: This launch is on hold while we add the international features needed to make it functional for this community. Allowing international characters in tags is our first priority before launch. Dates will be announced when available.

  • @perror, I read the same argument months ago. I'm sure the dev team is busy doing a lot of things and this may or may not be the priority, but I urge you or Robert to give us some feedback about how is it going and, if possible, a time-frame to have this completed. You have to consider also that a thriving community is here waiting for this sites to be launched, but if it takes years (as it is taking now), that community may and will disappear in the meantime, and maybe it is better to launch a site with the interface in English, as the most important part is the content.

  • @perror: continuing: of course the UI is very important, but if we can't have all, please ask yourself what is better... I'm not actively promoting this site proposal because of that apparently very long wait for all the users committed here.

  • In fact, Joel posted about this almost three years ago: meta.stackoverflow.com/a/53004

I note that sites like Spanish Language and Culture have managed to launch without a localized UI. Why should SO in Spanish be any different? Commented May 31, 2013 at 12:17

  • Now we wait for the site to launch; which may be a while due to the backlog on localization features.

What exactly are the localization features we are waiting for? Are they being implemented by Godot Associates  Commented Jul 3, 2013 at 19:25
  • See this post for some more info.
