Is it Martian for 'Greetings, Earthling!'? I can only see 'lollipop, N*M, lollipop'.

It's an alien protesting the Hello from Earth message sent in 2009. The inhabitants of Gliese 581 were having an intergalactic golf competition at the time and the signal interfered with their coverage. The hieroglyphics from left to right are:

  • Incoming EM waves being detected by antenna.

  • Random noise being injected into video signal by the hello message.

  • Putter being held upright ready to strike to ball but obscured to viewers.

They were very angry at the time, but when ALF the alien was announced as the winner the following day peace was maintained.
