How long will a private beta be up normally?

Would be nice to see more answers on the length of private beta. CiviCRM is now at 9 days, and I would like clarity on criteria for getting to public beta and when we are likely to go public. Our stats seem reasonable for a private beta with just a few hundred users.– Joe MurrayCommented Apr 3, 2015 at 0:11

I understand the typical private beta is at least 7 days, but sometimes it gets extended if the private beta does not yet have their scope worked out or it isn't yielding the kinds of metrics and quality questions desired.
A site can remain in public beta for as long as 565 days (and counting). I say that with some experience.
