A Shorter Lag Would Be Nice

I've noticed there is a lag for updating the user rep and badges on Area51 from other Stack Exchange communities which can behave a lag of several hours.

I'm guessing the stats are updated periodically, are?

Are there any plans to have them update in realtime or with a shorter lag?
