Proposal: Chinese Language

It's taken a considerable amount of time for the Chinese Language proposal to get enough people to follow the proposal, however we still don't have enough on/off topic questions.

I'm trying to get some idea of the main people who would be active on the site if it ever makes it to beta. These are the types of people who are regularly checking the progress of this proposal.

It would be disappointing for this to take another 12 months to make it through the commitment phase if we don't have enough interest.

If you are following this proposal are you still interested?

If you are following this proposal but think this site could be better served as part of another proposal please also provide that info here?

If I can find a few people who are interested in keeping this proposal going I will then post a question to discuss how we can work to get this site across the line more rapidly.

I'm definitely interested in keeping this proposal going, and would welcome any suggestions on how to speed the process up. I'd be happy to post it on my Twitter feed and Chinese learning blog; what other suggestions would you have?

I'd love a good community for Chinese learning, and I think a community on SE would make a great addition to the range of other tools I currently use for studying Chinese.

If you've got any great ideas, I'd love to help.

Its been frustrating how it has taken a very long time to get even towards 50% committed.

But it raises a valid point if no one is going use the beta site, there's no point in having it.

On the flipside, for people not already familiar with StackOverflow its difficult for them to understand the value.

So I hope that if we slowly approach a beta site, then once it goes live, the community will explode.

If only there were some people studying chinese in a university, who could get their whole class to sign up, we'd pretty much hit the required amount in one go.

  • @Matthew - I'm checking back every day. Commitment is now almost 60%, hopefully we should get enough committers in 3 or 4 months. Until then just have to keep going through the Area 51 crawl.
