Proposal: Magento

Obvisously, magento.stackexchange.com would be ideal, but this site might end up being "big" enough that eBay, Inc. might wish to exercise their trademark rights.

I really see no other option than having magento.stackexchange.com and I don't think eBay will have any problems with that. This site will only serve them good. Jan 2 '13 at 23:41

  • What makes you think they won't issue a takedown due to calling the site Magento?

  • @ColeJohnson Piotr (Magento, Inc employee) is checking on this for us along with Mosses Akizian. I'll raise the issue if needed when I'm back at Magento HQ next month.

magento.stackexchange.com is ok, anything with magento in main domain (eg magento-modules.com) is not ok Jan 9 '13 at 1:23

I say go with the obvious. I.e. put it up on magento.stackexchange.com. If eBay ever did try and take it down, they'd be kicking themselves and frankly I don't think they would ever try.

The only other alternative I can think of would be mage.stackexchange.com, but then we might have wizards getting involved...but that would perhaps be a good thing.

  • Yes, Piotr has asked Mossess to look into it.

  • Incidentally, I just sent an email (CC'ing you, @benmarks) to Mosses to find out if there is someone at eBay I could reach out to for official "permission" per-se. We'll see what I get back and go from there.

"mage" is not bad, but I also would vote for most obvious - magento.stackexchange.com

You never know who will be at eBay in the future in a position to take action regarding this. Unless it's on paper (legal approval), anything can happen. Jan 4 '13 at 14:50

mageoverflow.com is still available.

  • Not available anymore - secured it for the community. :-)

What about magento-answers.stackexchange.com? Just kiddin' ;-)
