Proposal: ExpressionEngine

Perhaps I don't understand the purpose of the announcements section. Each time I have posted announcements they have been removed.

I don't have the exact text of what I posted (and it's frustrating that there is no notification when an announcement is removed), but it was something like this.

"Thanks for supporting the project during our definition phase. Even if you followed the proposal during stage 1, please now use the "Commit" button on the left.

This is because I don't think it was obvious enough, especially to our users who aren't as familiar with Stack Exchange. Anyway, it is certainly not a comment or discussion, it is an announcement. When I protested, my announcement was removed again, with no explanation.

Now I want to post another announcement, probably:

Thanks for supporting the proposal so far. If you want to help us reach our goal faster, please head on over to Stack Overflow and ask/answer a few questions using the ExpressionEngine tag, to gain at least 200 reputation. This will help move us to the next stage.

However, I feel that will just get removed without comment as well. Any suggestions as to how to phrase this announcement so it doesn't get removed?

Update: This is now a moderator-only function.

Please do not use the 'announcements' feature. That feature was largely deprecated when we added a proper discussion facility to the proposal section. Anything you can say will only prompt others to to do the same (reply, comment, etc). The 'announcement' section was never equipped to handle such conversations so it was widely misused and abused.

Just click on 'create new discussion.' Users have no trouble seeing what you have to say, and it helps users comment and vet what you have to say, and they get to add a response of their own.

    I agree if a feature has been deprecated it should be removed from the site. I saw the announcements made and do feel they were worthy announcements.

    Thanks for the answer, but I agree with the others. Please don't put a feature there and then moderate when we use it as described.

    Well, considering Stack Exchange is working on a new replacement for Area 51, it's probably not worth spending development time on something that is going to be end of life soon. It would be ridiculous to spend time fixing something you're going to just throw away. ;)

    Taking out the announcement line should be a simple 5 minute fix for the StackExchange programmers. It would save hours of frustration in all the proposals, and would save moderators time in not having keep deleting announcements and then explaining it to the followers of each proposal every time. New Area 51 or not, the moderators of Area 51 @RobertCartaino et al, should request the programmers take their 5 minutes and remove the announcements code. The moderators would benefit more than anybody.
