Proposal: Genealogy & Family History

Currently we show over 250 committers. You should see yourself in the list. If you don't, but you think you've committed, then most likely you haven't verified your email address.

If your userid is a51, or Ryan Heaton, or MaskedPlant, then you have not yet (as I write this) verified your email and are not in the list of committers, even though your profile says you are.

To correct this, go to your profile page (click your name at the top of an Area 51 page), and click on the "send email verification to " and when you get it, click on the confirm link, then you'll be included.

If the site has reached 100% by the time you try this, it might not work. If so, let one of us know, and we can send you an invite that will enable you to join.

Also see the following discussion, and +1 it: It is not obvious enough when committing that your commitment is only counted if you confirm your email address

  • I thought I had done the confirm link already (twice). Hopefully this time it is correct.

  • Yes, @A51 - The number of followers incremented from 251 to 252 and I now see you when you order the list by "Most recent" as having signed up on the date Sep 9 at 20:27 - so you were one of the earliest ones! I'm glad you were watching and saw this discussion item. I hope the moderators take note of the difficulty you had and work to make the procedure clearer.

  • It looks like Brandy might have been another one who discovered that they Committed but didn't verify their email address and has now done so. It's easy to tell when the number of committers goes up, in this case from 252 to 253, but the last committer didn't change.

  • I received an email re proposal going to committment. When I tried logging in, iArea51 said I was not registered (again, just this minute). I then registered individually for a stack exchange account, and now all seems to be ok. A bit frustratinf for someone not used to this type of registration.

  • @MaskedPlant has now confirmed email. Welcome aboard! Ryan is now the only one known to be remaining, but he might get the message until he gets into work next week.

@A51 - Yes. The developers of Area 51 and Stack Exchange are hard-core programmers. They've put so much together, and have been tweaking it for the last few years to keep making it better and better. But they may have tweaked their registration system a bit too much, and it doesn't work as smoothly as it should. It's a bad first reflection that they need to fix. But once the Q&A site is up in Beta, we'll start to reap the rewards.

  • My spouse suggested I check this and I too was not able to log in. When I then joined Stack Exchange, my Area51 account was available.
