Proposal: Genealogy & Family History

I've noticed almost half of the people who originally signed up to "Follow" the Genealogy & Family History proposal, have not followed that up by "Commit"ing to the proposal which is a pledge to help ask and/or answer some questions during the 3 months of Beta.

I'm sure there are a few people who can't or won't Commit for various reasons, but half???

This includes many people with the 200+ Rep that is currently the anchor on our Commitment percentage.

We now need as many "Committers" as possible to reach the Beta. Those under 200 rep will help us as well.

So please ensure that you and anyone else you know is not just following, but is committed.

  • now I just wish I felt a little more honest when I had hit the "commit" button LOL. – rogerdpack Sep 20 '12 at 17:40
  • @rogerdpack - C'mon. 10 questions or answers over 3 months isn't too much to commit to, is it? – lkessler Sep 20 '12 at 18:05
  • LOL. It's the "I commit to participate actively in Genealogy & Family History for at least three months" that scared me... – rogerdpack Sep 20 '12 at 18:18
  • @rogerdpack - I betcha your problem could be spending too much time there once it starts up. Try to limit yourself to 1/2 hour per day. :-) – lkessler Sep 20 '12 at 18:27

I note that over the last two days, we added that many new but un-committed followers, each of them had over 200 rep.

  1. If you refer someone, try to include the referral link. (Area 51 > Life > Genealogy & Family History > commitment tab > click "Share this" and choose the first link.
  2. If you have invited someone via e-mail or direct contact in social media and they haven't yet committed, you might check to see if they mistakenly followed the definition phase.

Thanks for posting how to find the referral link - I've been looking for it! I think the people who designed this site are much more into gaming than I am - it seems to be deliberately difficult and made like a 1000 piece puzzle. – Jeni Sep 19 '12 at 11:11
  • @Jeni You're very welcome. Really like the idea you posted separately about spreading the word on LinkedIn. – GeneJ Sep 19 '12 at 11:41
