Proposal: Genealogy & Family History

Is a notification sent out to tell followers of a proposal that it moved from the definition phase to the commit phase?

If a notification isn't sent then I think the system is broken.

  1. Before I created a proposal and began visiting the site too many times every day, I would only visit Area51 a few times a year, even if I was interested and following a proposal. That's because progress is usually too slow to warrant frequent visits once you've used your 5 votes and created example questions (if your proposal needs them).
  2. The Genealogy proposal attracted a lot of new users to SE. Most of them won't come back without an email, which means people interested enough to create a new account (and sometimes even vote and create example questions) won't know that all they need to do now is click a simple button to commit.

It would be really nice if Area51 could indicate, maybe in the right column of the proposal, a confirmation of when the emails were sent, along with some stats that show what percentage of followers have become committers. – lkessler Sep 11 '12 at 4:42
  • Why the silence on this question asked 10 hours ago? Lack of response on questions of this kind gives the staging area a bad rap. – GeneJ Sep 11 '12 at 14:50

We just fixed an Area 51 bug that was preventing emails from being sent as normal for the past couple days. It was choking on our new Ask Patents site, which is the first SE 2.0 site without a corresponding A51 proposal.

The commitment emails were just sent (2 days late). Sorry about that.

Super! That's 5 committers in the last 7 minutes because of the emails. Thanks, Emmett! – lkessler Sep 11 '12 at 21:28
  • Thanks, Emmett. Is it possible now for Area 51 to send an e-mail to those who followed and/or committed to the other two only recently failed related initiatives? --GeneJ – GeneJ Sep 12 '12 at 13:00

@GeneJ The Genealogy proposal is doing really well on its own. It is possible to contact users from those older proposals, but I'd like to give the normal process a chance of working before contacting other users in that manner. – Robert Cartaino Sep 12 '12 at 16:54
  • That's good news Robert, and thank you.--GJ – GeneJ Sep 12 '12 at 21:10

Woot!

Unless I'm just special, believe e-mail notices are going out!

I rec'd an invitation to commit a few minutes ago. The e-mail came addressed from "Stack Exchange Area 51." It was signed by, err... "Head Alien in Charge."

Great job you guys.

  • Right on top of things again, GeneJ! – lkessler Sep 11 '12 at 21:27
