Not everyone prefers to be invited using email. Is there a way we can invite people over IM etc by passing them a special link? Wouldn't this be nice?

Why am I allowed to sign up on a private beta site I never committed to?

  • Why then can anyone access private beta now just by clicking the visit site button on area51?

  • @Mew meta.stackexchange.com/questions/212235/… — It used to take a private invite by a participant to get in. Private beta is about limiting access while the site was getting established, so we decided that if someone was interested enough to visit the proposal, click through that link and sign up, they should be able to pitch in and help. If a private beta ever became too unwieldy, the private beta wall could be re-activated. But "too many people" has not been a problem for any of our private betas. Jun 12, 2014 at 14:29
