Why was the Atheism site was closed after only 94 days in beta? Is it possible to say after so short time that this proposal didn't have enough activity? There are some sites that stay in beta for more than a year and still have not enough activity to leave beta phase!

The subject had quickly run its course and simply had nowhere else to go leading to an uncharacteristically rapid decline early in its life cycle. Most of the core users lost interest and left the site.

But even beyond issues of traffic and the size of the subject and audience, most of the early users stated sincerely that they lost interest as the questions became uninspired and "painfully uninteresting" — that's their words; not mine.

Atheism was a well-run site, considering the narrow scope of the subject, and we attracted some high-quality users from the experience. Yet sometimes a subject just isn't dynamic enough to facilitate a boundless supply of questions. Even if we managed to find a few more niches that weren't explored the first time, the downward spiral isn't something that could have been easily recovered.
