Proposal: Prepper

A prepper is "An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances or lifestyle without significant reliance on other persons (i.e., being self-reliant), or without substantial assistance from outside resources (govt., etc.) in order to minimize the effects of that change on their current lifestyle."

... Um, what? Why do we need a site for this? – Nicol Bolas Jun 7 '12 at 23:42
  • This was suppose to go with my site proposal note sure how it ended up a discussion item. – OrionDarkwood Jun 8 '12 at 12:08
  • Also, could you more adequately explain what that actually means? To me, that sounds rather like a "survivalist". – Nicol Bolas Jun 8 '12 at 12:11
  • You are partially correct. They are a few key differences – OrionDarkwood Jun 8 '12 at 12:38

You are partially correct. They are a few key differences. 1. Preppers prepare for many different types of emergencies where survivalist are mainly concerned with SHTF (Sheet hitting the fan aka govt takeover) and TEOTWAWKI (The End of the World as We Know It aka Asteroid strike). 2nd Preppers tend to take a less aggressive stance whereas a survivalist will engage the enemy and track them down a prepper is more concerned about living and being a shadow (i.e. not attracting notice). Lastly a survivalist tends to be more off the grid and solitary than a prepper. – OrionDarkwood Jun 8 '12 at 12:49
