Preface
The first related question there was mine and this question is almost a duplicate, but it's in the right place and it's a more specific question than that was. Also, I never felt I got a satisfactory answer to that question.

Request
The visual distinction between the Staging Area and Discussion Zone should match that of other SE sites with their Child-Meta pages. The sites referenced in the accepted answer to the second link (Apple and Meta Apple) have a similar setup but different colors so that when you switch between the two sites, the change is clear.

On Area51, switching between the two is fluid and, especially for beginning or infrequent users, very confusing. I know it says Area 51 Discussion Zone and Area 51 Staging Area in the header, but at the very least could the blue be a different color for the background so as to more clearly distinguish between the two? I know that big changes are in the works for the next gen, but in the meantime, can we eliminate this obvious visibility/modality issue?

Fixing the visual issues and workflow problems are not minor projects and will not likely to be added to this system because, as you said, there are already big changes in the works for a next generation product.

    @norabora The next-generation process will not look anything like the Area 51 of today. It's an entirely new process and a new workflow... and (hopefully) will not share any of this site's shortcomings.
