So, I've always liked the design of Area 51, but now that I've got a proposal up, and it's possible, if not likely that visitors coming to my proposal will never have visited SE, much less Area 51 -- I was left pondering if it's possible some might view the site as unprofessional.

Has there been any discussion on this topic, and if so, what was the outcome?

Guessing this was the same line of thought that was applied to the move away from the "sketchy theme" to a more professional look and feel.

Many of the discussions likely predate this Area 51-specific forum. One example: Area 51 appeals to geeks.

I'd hate to see people spend too much time on this. An early Area 51 redesign is already on the drawing board, and it isn't likely to include a strong component of aliens.

Yes, we have overthrown the alien overlords from

Area 51: We Come in Peace

… so Z@rpqf is no longer in charge and we are free to draw up a design to appeal to the larger, human audience.
