Proposal: 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, & Personal Manufacturing

It's time to establish a final site name for this proposal. The current name ("3D Printer, Laser Cutters & Personal Manufacturing") is too much about enumerating the topics rather than naming the site.

The name "Desktop Manufacturing" seems to have the widest acceptance:

Resolution: I was on the fence about the more-preferred term, but I'm okay with just going with the few that responded here. I changed the name to "Personal Manufacturing."

  • Desktop would exclude the more professional models which definitely don't fit on your desk.

I prefer "personal manufacturing" because there are various technologies coming together at the hobbits level that don't fit on the desktop; laser cutters, many CNC machines, plasma cutters, the 3D printers that print bricks out of clay, etc...

    I assume "hobbits" was a typo for "hobbyist", but I love the image of Sam Gamgee sitting outside the door of his hobbit hole, smoking a pipe and watching his RepRap whirr back and forth.
