Proposal: CoWorking

Am I missing something here? As far as I can tell, it's just working together with other people, as in co-workers. Is there some alternate term that this is meant to get at and is just poorly defined with no example questions?

How is it different or separate from The Workplace?

Well, apparently coworking is:

Coworking is a style of work which involves a shared working environment, sometimes an office, yet independent activity. Unlike in a typical office environment, those coworking are usually not employed by the same organization. Typically it is attractive to work-at-home professionals, independent contractors, or people who travel frequently who end up working in relative isolation. Coworking is the social gathering of a group of people, who are still working independently, but who share values, and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with talented people in the same space.

So it's not as clear cut a dupe of the Workplace as I thought when I first saw the proposal. Still, I don't really think it's a topic with a wide enough audience to support a site on its own, and it is clearly within the Workplace's scope as defined by the proposal's description:

Proposed Q&A site for members of the workforce navigating the professional setting.

Yes you are right, There may not be a wide enough audience to support this site. I would love to make this part of the workspace. I did see that before i proposed this site but it just didnt seem like a fit. We will try to make it work in there.

I'm going to close this. From the lack-luster response, this really could be better served as an effective subject for our up-and-coming Workplace proposal. Sounds like an interesting philosophy I'd love to see as part of that site.

@Chad It has reached 100% commitment. We are preparing for its launch. Barring any technical problems or other concerns, this site should launch into private beta on Tuesday or Wednesday, and if all goes well it will go into public beta a week or two later. Apr 6, 2012 at 18:51
