Islam hasn't been launched because of an insufficient number of committers, not because of any action or inaction by Stack Exchange, Inc.

Sites on Area51 are proposed by ordinary users like you and I, and depend on ordinary users to progress towards beta stage and launch. Jewish Life and Learning was proposed in September of 2010, gained 100 followers in about two months and 200 commitments in a similar time frame, and launched into beta about 8 months ago through the normal process. Christianity was proposed in July of 2010, grew more slowly than Jewish Life and Learning taking 8 months in the definition (following) stage and 6 months in the committment phase, launching into beta about 4 months ago, again by the standard process.

If you want a site about Islam, no one's stopping you. Posting here won't help much - you need to reach out to your social network and get additional commitments, and patiently wait for the site to launch. You just need people and time.

@akito One reason the Christianity proposal took a long time was because the folks who finally settled on it were divided into 4-5 proposals. One road to making an Islam site would be to make it as broad as possible. (i.e. no Sunni vs Shiite sites) Jan 10, 2012 at 22:24
  • @PeterTurner: I totally agree with you on it.
