Will questions about building and maintaining a programming language's community or contributors be allowed?

Proposal: Programming Language Design and Implementation

Basically what is says on the tin. On CGCC we have a couple of questions about golfing language design, one of which partially focuses on what's possibly the most important and hard-to-get-right aspect of it: actually getting users.

Will we allow questions about:

• Building and maintaining a community of your language's users
• Attracting and organizing open source contributors to implement your programming languages
• Advertising or bringing attention to a newly created language

These are slightly different issues from what we normally cover, but I feel like as a niche tag (community-engagement or something) it would be nice to have and not harmful in any way.

HOWEVER:

Aspects of community building (especially those that have to do with "design and implementation" most definitely belong hereon

Finding that line is going to be a trial-and-error process, no doubt

Say you're a moderately-successful language designer, and you've got FooLang built, working, and in use by more than a handful of your dubious friends

Determining where to take a language next (whether it's syntactic updates, expanding the standard library, or whathaveyounot) is likely going to be a community-oriented process (ignore the BDFLs of the world for a moment)

The aspects of community management that directly relate to language "design" or "implementation" belong here

I feel that gaining and cultivating a community of user and/or contributors for a programming language isn't any different from doing so for other kind of software, particular if it's not "general purpose" software like a word processor.

Having said that, if this community takes off, it will attract people with PL projects, and PL enthusiasts who are willing to try something new. How could it not?

Promoting your project is okay as long as you're not a spammer.
