I want to start agriculture.stackexchange.com. I created a quick document to describe the process and shared it with a handful of influencers from different communities.

The initial enthusiasm quickly drops as people have trouble creating an account. Saw it not working for two of them and tried to reproduce it to create a detailed bug report, but then I ran into 'suspicious activity' and stopped there.

My guess is that there's a bug related to account creation, so I'm hoping to figure out if a workaround exists. Feedback?

  • Have you tried looking at all the existing Q&A information on account creation on Area 51? There are at least two Q&A that between them form a canonical response to the issue. Here's one solution that worked for a few people.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I read through the q&a in detail, and linked to it from the document I linked from this question. I didn't find anything in terms of a canonical response to 'the issue'. My point is that anything that has unintended bad UX should be considered broken, and the bad UX that was reported to me seems unintentional. I'd like to figure out if that perception is correct. The fact that this question receives downvotes and no answer kinda illustrates the issue, right?
