I was getting a Page Not Found error when I tried to edit my profile.

Incidentally I logged in to my Area 51 account, tried it again, and it worked, so it likely only happens when a user is logged out of the main area, but logged in on the Meta site.

I assume this is not standard behaviour, but on other pages on the Stack Exchange network this state of being semi-logged-in is impossible, as far as I know, so this could be an oversight more than a bug.

Side note: there is also no tag for or something similar, it seems, and I can't create one.

That state should be impossible here, too. Area 51 and its meta both use the same cookie. If you're logged out of one, you're logged out of both. Are you sure you didn't just have your profile page loaded and something caused you to get logged out between loading the page and clicking on Edit Profile? I am not able to reproduce this behavior at all except in that very edge case, for which there is no solution.

  • @animuson I visited Area 51 first, after which its Meta. There I tried to edit my profile, which I was able to visit (it showed my profiles on other sites on the network). I then revisited Area 51 and noticed I was actually logged out. There I logged in, refreshed the tab of my profile I still had open, and the Page Not Found error was gone.

  • @animuson Not true (At least for me), I can log out of all sites and still remain logged in to Area51.SE and I can also log out of Area51.SE and still remind logged in on the Area51.meta. Mar 14, 2022 at 22:37
