Proposal: Vexillology

I'm quite impressed with this proposal. At first I never thought a proposal about flags would make it this far. How are the users being attracted? What is the pre-existing community that was linked in the application form?

The "community" here was listed as https://reddit.com/r/vexillology

Now I don't know what Robert's past thoughts on existing community were, so I didn't close the proposal based on that, but that honestly doesn't look like a legitimate community for this proposal. From what I can tell, there is no discussion taking place about flags there. It looks like a forum where people can simply design and show off flags they've created. And from what I can tell, nobody in that Reddit has ever mentioned the proposal ongoing here.

I fully anticipate this proposal to be closed at the four month mark for not reaching the thresholds needed. It is going nowhere and does not have an interested community behind it.

I agree that it seems on its way to closure since there's 2 weeks left and 33 more questions need 10 upvotes. But I was impressed that without really advertising on reddit or having any obvious community, this proposal managed to attract 47 followers, almost ALL of them with 200+ rep. If they make it to commitment, it seems that with 4 more months they won't have trouble reaching 100 users with 200+ rep. I do wonder where they're getting all these high-rep users from. Chat rooms? Comments on people's posts? Or maybe the proposer just knows a lot of SE veterans? – Nike Dattani Jul 13 at 23:03
  • @Nike Mostly just people who happened to be browsing Area 51. The stats at the right suggest only 23% of followers are following only that one proposal. That's usuallya strong indicator that it's mostly just getting people who like helping out new sites are are idly interested in the topic. – animuson Jul 14 at 0:17

Numismatics is only at 8.7% "only this proposal" and they only have 23 followers, much less than Vexillology, and the proposer (warren) is a heavy SE user across many sites, who is very familiar with A51, so I was impressed that Vexillology is doing so much better. I understand it's a month older, but it has double the number of followers and almost triple the % "only visiting this proposal" – Nike Dattani Jul 14 at 0:47
