Proposal: Extended Reality

Stack Overflow tagged questions: *reality

What is this proposal going to do that's fundamentally different from what SO already offers?

There are plenty of non-programming topics related to extended reality. For example, most questions related to user experience would be off-topic on Stack Overflow.

So those questions would be asked on UX SE instead. Is there any significant subtopic that doesn't already have a place on Stack Exchange, which would justify dragging the rest of the topic into its own space?

  • @Nij, there are 18 non-closed VR/AR questions on UX SE, or slightly over two per year.

An existing site with a broad variety of users and topics gets two in a year, and you think a totally new site focused only on that subject would do better?

  • @Nij, quite possibly. Aviation got 176 non-closed questions about UAVs over the course of seven years; the new UAV site got that many in nine days.

  • UAV questions are barely on-topic at Aviation SE, and only because they are about flying aircraft and aerodynamics. The community was never really in support of them and never encouraged the topic. The Drones proposal did a lot of homework, found a clear lack of service to the communities supporting it, and built a huge momentum to show they would be the better site for UAV/drones. Using them as an example of how it might happen without doing any of the actual work to get there, doesn't strengthen the argument for this proposal (or any other that isn't investing and committing the effort).
