Currently the followers of a proposal are notified when the site enters its public beta. However, followers during the definition phase are likely to want to commit during the commitment phase as well. Currently, followers are not notified when a proposal transitions from definition to commitment.

Wouldn't it would be helpful to notify followers when the transition occurs, and inform them that they are now able to commit to the proposal?

EDIT:
According to this question and answer, this feature does not currently exist.

I was notified when a proposal transitioned. I think this feature already exists. – Tal Fishman Oct 5 '11 at 17:44
  • A proposal I was following transitioned, and I was not notified. Judging by the low commintment rate, I would guess most followers were not. According to discuss.area51.stackexchange.com/questions/1175/…, that is not the case. – yoozer8 Oct 5 '11 at 17:46

I have received notifications for proposals I followed in definition when they moved to the commitment stage so the feature exists. If you weren't notified I would think that might be a bug. As for the linked post, I understand it to be about a user following a site which has already entered the commitment stage. – moberley Oct 5 '11 at 19:35
  • @moberly yes, that is what the question is about, but the answer explains that followers are "notified when the site enters the public beta - and that's about it" – yoozer8 Oct 5 '11 at 19:37

Just the other day I got an email that Professional Matters was entering the commitment phase. This is in part what it said:

A Q&A site proposal which you are following, Professional Matters, is now moving into the commitment phase.

So this feature already exists. You're misinterpreting Robert's answer on the question you linked — "and that's about it" refers to all that is done to connect you to the actual launched site; it's not referring to all notifications that you could possibly get regarding the status of the proposal.

If you didn't get such an email you should check your spam filter (and make sure you have an email address listed in the appropriate field of your Area 51 account).

  • Hm. I thought this might have been it, so I checked my email. Nothing there either. – yoozer8 Oct 5 '11 at 20:48
