Proposal: Operations Research

I know new betas usually launch on Tuesdays. Looks like we won’t launch today, so, will we need to wait until next week?

Update:

After some technical delays, the site is now up and running.

Enjoy!

original post:

Site launches are typically approved on a Thursday or Friday, and scheduled for launch on the next available Tuesday (accounting for holidays, vacations and other events). I don't see any delays. Since the proposal was completed over the weekend, it should be scheduled later this week for launch this coming Tuesday.

My browser's "reload" button will be happy to hear that it will get a weeklong break. :) Commented May 15, 2019 at 13:29
  • Oh no! OK, thanks for keeping us posted. Good luck with the security stuff. Commented May 16, 2019 at 19:48
  • @RobertCartaino, any chance for a launch tomorrow, or is it a hard no? Commented May 20, 2019 at 14:08
  • @LarrySnyder610 it is not feasible to launch tomorrow due to ongoing security work. Commented May 20, 2019 at 14:11
  • OK, we will be patient. Commented May 20, 2019 at 14:18

Update: And now I'm bringing good news! The site is up and running.

I'm the developer that launches new sites and unfortunately I come bearing some bad news.

The original date for the private beta launch got delayed due to a security incident that we had to resolve first.

The plan then was to launch this week, but we are hitting some issues with database creation that also need to be resolved before we can proceed here. Long story short, we broke creation scripts a few months back and site launches are infrequent, so it went unnoticed. There are two possible fixes. One is easy but might not work, the other would be a sure thing but is a substantial amount of work.

I'm trying out the easy way first, and if it works out, the site will launch by the end of this week. If it doesn't... I'll have to come back with an updated timeline.

I understand that y'all have been waiting for a while, and I apologize for the delays. I'll get y'all up and running ASAP.

  • Thanks, Adam. This must be a headache. We're eager to get up and running, but we understand that things don't always go as planned. It would be great if you can keep us posted here or on a new A51 meta thread, so we know what to expect. Thanks and good luck! Commented May 29, 2019 at 22:02

  • @Rob I'm sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about. Please feel free to clarify. Commented May 30, 2019 at 2:09
  • @Rob Okay I see it now. The launch date you heard and posted in your support answer was incorrect. The date has come and gone. The correct information appears in other posts, so I removed the incorrect information to avoid confusion, and left you a comment to that effect. That is the notice you saw earlier Commented May 30, 2019 at 3:02
  • Thanks, @AdamLear, Would you be able to comment more upon the easy way and the hard way. I just wanted to know how both would affect the community.

@AdamLear THANK YOU for getting us up and running so quickly! Commented May 30, 2019 at 21:33
  • @LarrySnyder610 No prob! Thanks again for your patience, and please let me know if you see anything weird in the first few days. We hit some additional issues during launch, and I believe we fixed them all, but who knows what else may lurk beneath. :)
