If you have an account on any other Stack Exchange site (Stack Overflow, tex.SE, math.SE, etc.), please make sure it is linked to your commitment to the OR site on Area 51.

Here's how to check:

  1. Visit the site proposal on Area 51.
  2. Under "Your Commitment", click on your user name.
  3. If it says "Unregistered User" at the top, you have not linked to another SE account.
  4. If it says "Registered User", click the tab that says "accounts". If you see your other accounts there, you have linked successfully; if not, you have not linked successfully.

Here's how to fix it: If you have another SE account but have not linked it successfully, it seems the easiest way to fix it is just to click "Uncommit", log in to your other SE account, and click "Commit" again. Alternately, you can try this.

Note: It can take up to a day for Area 51 to recognize your linked account. So, if you don't see the Commitment % roll over by 1 when you link your account, don't panic.

Why this is important: To move to the next phase (beta launch), sites need 100 or more committers who have 200 or more reputation points on other SE sites. This is often the hardest hurdle to cross.

[This post was originally aimed at supporters of the Operations Research site. Now that that site has been launched, the post has been edited to make it more general.]

  • Can you include those unlinked accounts below? I'd like to look into how that happens and how perhaps we can make it more evident that is the case. May 10, 2019 at 15:31
  • Yes -- OK to just post them here you mean? May 10, 2019 at 15:31
  • Yes. If you see it (public), there's nothing privileged or secret about May 10, 2019 at 15:32
  • Is there an easy way to search by name among the Area 51 committers? May 10, 2019 at 15:33
  • Other than a normal browser search (ctrl-F), not that I know of (I always wanted better tooling for things like that). I was going off your statement, "I know of at least 3 committers..." For my purposes, listing them would be fine. May 10, 2019 at 15:37
  • OK, I will list their SE profiles, and their Area 51 profiles if I have them at hand. Give me a sec. May 10, 2019 at 15:38
  • No rush. It's a longer-term need; not something I can do anything about immediately without further dev resources. May 10, 2019 at 15:39
  • OK, here are some. There are probably half-dozen or so others, but I didn't keep as careful track of them because they are not 200+ rep users. :) Erwin Kalvelagen, Sebastian Wozny (Area51 profile), Kyle Booth, John Gunnar Carlsson May 10, 2019 at 15:42

    Thank you...... May 10, 2019 at 15:48
  • Dear Larry, I have been sending this list of very useful instructions, to friends of mine that have committed to the Materials Modeling proposal but who have failed to get their 200+ point reputation recognized by Area51. The problem though is that Step 1 says "Visit the OR page" and has a link to the OR page, which confuses them, because they are trying to commit to Materials Modeling, not OR. Now that OR is in beta, do you mind making this post more general, so it can be useful to other proposals? Feb 10, 2020 at 15:33

@user1271772 Once when I was really grinding away to get us to the "100+ at 200+" and had some extra time on my hands I made this flowchart, which I tweeted out. It got some laughs if not actual supporters. I can modify it for Materials if you want. Feb 10, 2020 at 20:25
  • @LarrySnyder610, wow! That's quite amazing! I was actually planning to reach out to you to learn more about how you attracted so many people so quickly for the OR proposal. Because I have really, really been working hard at Materials Modeling... I drove to 6 different universities (some of them more than an hour away) the week before the Definition phase 4-month deadline was about to be reached, to campaign for people to follow the proposal. We have ~900 people in the facebook group, but it seems that 200-rep users are less and less interested in participating in Area51. Feb 13, 2020 at 17:35

Awesome - thanks so much! I'll just modify the links in Illustrator and call it good :)
