I am thinking of starting a site for students preparing for engineering entrance exams in India. Typically there is a large community of such students each year and the questions for entrance exams can be quite challenging.

My questions are:

  • Would StackExchange be a good platform for such a site?
  • Are there any guidelines for appropriate topics for StackExchange?

Simultaneously too narrow (limited appeal) and too broad (I'm assuming the exams cover many topics) IMO. – Matthew Read Sep 9 '11 at 19:40
  • there are some very similar open sources clones of stackexchange, e.g. vanilla board system. I think you should choose something like this. – Werner Schmitt Oct 10 '11 at 0:40

There have been a number of similar proposals, and all of them ended up closed.

My experience is that Stack Exchange sites are a poor fit when the audience is people who only have a short-term interest in the topic. As a start: who are the experts, and why should they stick around?

If the Studying proposal ever took off, questions about on this topic could use a common tag to help users identify them—but otherwise, I don't think it's likely to work.
