How do I gather followers for my proposal?

I have a site, but I don't know anyone on the site. In the first stage, I can't submit it until I have a community. This is reasonable, but how can I gather publicity and followers for my site?

One option I have thought of is posting question asking for followers. But these are not real questions, and it seems that would make it spam.

The name of my site is called Trade. It is for enthusiasts of commerce, trade, and merchandise. For example, the triangular trade, Columbian Exchange, modern trade.

  • Publicizing a proposal on SE sites is not allowed and will be flagged as spam. We used to allow this, but with so many proposals and other projects vying for attention, it quickly became problematic. We do not allow it. – Robert Cartaino Dec 20 '18 at 23:53
  • @RobertCartaino I had similar question. Can we create a discussion here to see if any of the users are ready to follow my site proposal and whether they support it or not before making the proposal in Area51? is that not allowed? Thanks – xbmono Dec 21 '18 at 0:33

@xbmono No; unfortunately, there isn’t a community here big enough to build a site for you, so we no longer support that type of post-and-pray as a use case. See Changes to the Area 51 process for more. – Robert Cartaino Dec 21 '18 at 0:42
  • @RobertCartaino Ok thanks...perhaps my imression of new proposal is wrong. I thought we need to show that poeple are interested and then StackOverflow creates them... but from what you said, it seems the person who proposes the site will have to manage/create and deal with it... is that right? If yes, what does managing the new site exactly mean? Supervising? Moderating? Coding with web programming languages? Is there any link that explains what this means? – xbmono Dec 21 '18 at 0:54
  • So I can't use questions. Where do I start? – Marvin Dec 21 '18 at 1:07
  • Why else would you want a base for a community without having an actual community? – Nij Dec 22 '18 at 4:41

Try asking off-site. For related but not duplicated sites (like Finance), they could be interested, so you could try chatting in one of their site chatrooms to gather interest for your new proposal (That is, if it is allowed)

If they are not interested, and nobody you know (in real life or online) would be interested, then there is not much you can do. You'd just have to wait for somebody else to make the proposal or the proposal would just never happen.

So, in conclusion, try asking in related SE sites' chatrooms. If that doesn't work, ask people you know in real life and online to join. If no one's interested, then you would have to give up on the proposal until people are interested.
