Proposal: Semantic Web

There is a lot of research on semantic web technologies in academia, deployment by buisiness, open source libraries, etc... So that term is well know. At the same time the W3C has a Web Data initiative that spans the semantic web and other fields too. In order to gather a larger community - which makes the difference to questions being asked - it may be better to extend the name for the proposal to Web Data.

"Linked Data" may also be good.

I renamed it to Web Data, so the question is what is the best name... – Henry Story Dec 8 '18 at 13:50

I prefer Semantic Web. If you take "Web Data" litterally, then it has to be a strict superset of Open Data. It can create confusion, even conflicts. – Antoine Zimmermann Dec 12 '18 at 13:48
  • We need to check how well the questions we want to ask could be asked on Open Data, and if perhaps they want (or can) change their name to be more encompassing. They already include semantic web questions in their charter. area51.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/28389/… – Henry Story Dec 12 '18 at 14:25
  • I'd like that the forum be open to questions unrelated to Web Data per se, such as ontology engineering questions. – Antoine Zimmermann Dec 12 '18 at 15:00
  • Have you asked on opendata.meta.stackexchange.com if that is within their scope? – Henry Story Dec 12 '18 at 15:05
  • I think that asking this on OD would be as incongruous as asking on SO a question about plumbing. – Antoine Zimmermann Dec 12 '18 at 15:07
  • I asked a question regarding scope on opendata.meta opendata.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/413/… – Henry Story Dec 12 '18 at 16:11
  • Or rather "Web of Data"? "Web Data" also covers "Data on the Web" (REST APIs etc.) – Stanislav Kralin Dec 13 '18 at 21:32
