This question is an exact duplicate of:
I would like to propose a Military SE.
When looking to join the military, getting information is difficult. The official websites provide you with only the bonuses, benefits, and general desirable things. They do their best to make every job sound amazing.
Military recruiters are notorious for leaving out crucial facts (or even outright lying) just to get you to sign up. Going to them for information is like going to a used car salesman for information on cars: it makes sense on paper, but they'll do anything to get your signature on the dotted line.
There are a host of videos on Youtube from people in the military, and some of them do offer to answer people's questions, but they don't know everything. You are also relying on a single source for information, rather than a collection of professional opinions.
Because of these things, I feel that a Military SE would make for an excellent proposal. Anyone looking to get into any branch of the military could use it. There is a great need for a free platform full of people in the military or retired from it who can answer questions without bias or agendas.
Questions: The majority of questions (in my opinion) would be about life in the military, beyond what the official websites tell you. This could include general topics such as:
- What is BMT like?
- How do I increase my rank?
- How does recruitment work?
- What options do I have to change my job?
- Plus a lot more topics, including the military's impact on military families, civilians, and other countries.
Is there interest in such a SE site?
