Proposal: Sociology and Anthropology

Prompted by this example question and the comments there, I'm wondering whether this proposal/stack will take archaeology questions or not.

Wikipedia explains quite nicely:

Archaeology, which studies past human cultures through investigation of physical evidence, is thought of as a branch of anthropology in the United States, while in Europe, it is viewed as a discipline in its own right or grouped under other related disciplines, such as history.

On History.se questions about archaeology seem to be off-topic. So they've obviously taken a more 'American' approach.

The header of this proposal seems to suggest archaeology would fit this site:

Proposed Q&A site for people interested in the development of human culture and society and discussion of their functions, qualities, evolution, implications in other areas of study, and how they are evolving now.

Will this site allow archaeology questions? To what extent? Do we only accept those that are related to the development of human culture and society, or also the ones about archaeological theory and methods used (like e.g. 'What are the benefits of using a Total Station over hand drawing when mapping a dig site?')

Archaeology can be viewed as a way to test theories in sociology and anthropology. Hence I think it would be relevant to the kind of questions we would want to answer.

At the same time this should not prohibit another group from setting up a more specific site for archaeology.

If one allows such questions from archaeology, the methods used would need to be permitted as well so one could evaluate how the evidence was collected.

A question that would not be relevant from archaeology would be one that did not address some theory or concern in sociology or anthropology at least indirectly.

Actually, questions about archaeology aren't generally considered to be off-topic on History:SE, although there is an ongoing debate on the meta site about exactly where the line should be drawn.

From experience, questions related to the development of human culture and society would probably be fine on History:SE. Most questions about archaeological theory would probably be OK too. You get into the 'grey area' when you ask about archaeological techniques. Personally, I would be fine with questions about archaeological site surveys, but I know that others would regard that as off-topic.

As the close reason states, there are relatively few experienced archaeologists (and especially field archaeologists) active on History:SE, so the concern is that the community would lack the necessary expertise to answer such questions. That would probably also be a valid concern on a Sociology and Anthropology site.
