(Originally asked at SE Meta)

Bangla (Eng. Bengali) is a language common in Bangladesh and part of India (West Bengal) with a rich history of literature and cultural heritage.

How would it be; if on AREA-51 site is opened for discussion about question and answer about Bengali language? The functions like tagging etc. and main portion of the question and answers will be basically written in English (so that everyone can understand and participate) but users will be allowed to quote in Bengali; with an English transcript of pronunciation and an English translation.

Initially the site would include all aspects of Bengali language; such as starting from Literature, riddles, metaphor-cracking through grammar, spelling, etymology, pronunciation, translation etc. to typing softwares, encoding types, problems in encoding, fonts, optical character recognition, etc.

Later on, if the site can survive and cross the beta stage; then further branching can be decided.

Update: I've just proposed one. http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/109460/bangla

I say, a great idea! Bengali is the first language of millions; it does need a SE site. Apr 25, 2017 at 17:00
  • @SohaFarhinPine Thank you so so much for a support. However I dont know why Indian languages site proposal became dead. Maybe the enthusiasts could not know that such a site was proposed. (not by me) Apr 25, 2017 at 17:04

I'm more than happy to be able to help you in this! Apr 27, 2017 at 8:57
  • @SohaFarhinPine it requires some immediate more supporter because its follower number is at a danger zone because criteria for undeletion includes minimum 5 follower within 3 days of submission! Though today the asterisk has been removed (maybe by system or moderator); by-definition it yet not reached the safe zone. Apr 27, 2017 at 14:09
  • @SohaFarhinPine I've created a chat room about this site. Please visit it, since I don't have moderator privileges; I can't invite you in a chat room. Apr 27, 2017 at 14:12
  • I remain very busy these days; I have my exams, you see. May 2, 2017 at 9:43
  • @SohaFarhinPine I did not knew about your exams. Also for anyone it may not be possible to give a reply; and this site does-NOT enforce anyone to give a reply (Rather talkativeness is discouraged to avoid junk and spam). However the sample site has been removed by system; but don't worry, if many enthusiasts gradually come to know; it wouldn't remain so hard. This site evolves, quite slowly (like wikipedia) but under some strict regulations. May 2, 2017 at 14:07
  • @SohaFarhinPine Please use the chat room since it is not a proper place for discussions. Also some activity in the chat room would help the chat room stay undeleted. May 2, 2017 at 14:10

There is currently a proposal for Dravidian and Sanskritic Languages which includes Bengali in its scope. The proposal got some early strong support but appears to be flagging. Support the proposal if you want to have a site where you can ask and answer about Bengali!

+1. I had forgotten that so many other D&S languages have been proposed individually over the years, and combining all the followers from WayBackMachine, there's easily more than 200 committers. Jun 26, 2020 at 19:59
  • That proposal has now been deleted...
