Proposal: Google

Earlier this year, there had been a question asking "What will be the main contents of 'Google'?". From this, we got an answer coming to the conclusion that Google does not have a fixed definition.

So that does beg the question: What will this proposed site be about?

And to answer this question, I am creating a discussion to properly "flesh out" its definition.

Several questions to think over:

  • Should we rename this proposal to get a more narrow definition?
    • What about changing the description:

Proposed Q&A site for people interested in learning how to use google products.

  • What are "google products"? Are they hardware products (Google Home, Google Chromecast, etc) or software products (Google Drive, Gmail, etc)? If anything, we have to ensure that we do not drain other SE sites.

  • IMHO the first two bullets are redundtant regarding the definition phase. Please consider to rephrase your question so we could center the discussion on the rename of this proposal. I'm planning to suggest a new proposal.

  • @Rubén You could include a new answer that says what this new proposal of yours is planned to be about and its definition.

  • I will do that when I'm ready :)

  • Why the downvote? I believe this is a legit question that needs to be sorted out if Google is ever to become a site on SE.

  • The downvoter doesn't get notifications of activity on threads that they voted. By the way, I didn't vote yet.

Short answer

If you want more questions being upvoted so this proposal meets the thread holds to launch the commitment phase, make suggestions about how to think about what could be on-topic on new site about Google that doesn't drains other sites from the Stack Exchange Network.

Explanation

The purpose of the definition phase of Area 51 proposals is to answer this kind of question for each proposal: What questions are on-topic on this proposal?.

The way that it's done is by posting sample questions and by voting them, so it's really fine that questions are being voting down and being closed.

  • Okay, I'm not really concerned about the voting. What bugs me is that Google doesn't have a solid definition yet.

I found this site because I've recently been looking for a place to pose and answer questions around the suite of Google products such as AdWords, Analytics, Partners, My Business, etc. I am hoping that this site will lean in that direction. Gmail and more well know Google Properties (Maps, Drive, etc) would all fit into that, but to my mind Android is a large enough topic to warrant it's own group.
