Proposal: App Stores

The proposed site might also allow for marketing questions as these are often considered by developers when coming to a new market, and there is curently no better place than here for such questions.

I'm thinking about questions like "On Android ad support is popular for free apps. If I port on Samsung Bada, should I keep the same business model or rather release a paid app?". Such questions are specific to app stores and not tied to a specific technology or OS, and I feel they would fit in nicely in this proposal.

  • All of the "how do I launch my app" would also be great questions for our onstartups board. – Joseph Barisonzi Aug 13 '11 at 21:25
  • Yes, there certainly is some overlap here, the idea would be that general marketing questions could go to a more marketing oriented forum, while the ones that are clearly related to app stores and require good knowledge of their market might be better fit here, if you plan an advertising campaign you would like to ask which advertisement services offers the best fill-rate/visibility on a particular app Store etc... This requires good knowledge of app stores, and is quite narrow in scope so it should fit here nicely – Smugrik Aug 16 '11 at 12:20

Smugrik, I can see those questions fitting in here. Consider Apple's given stats, we have close to four hundred and fifty thousand apps. Marketing advice would be a welcome topic.

However, I'll point out that marketing questions may turn subjective. I'd be wary of "what's the best way to" type questions. Instead we'd want things like "What have you tried to market your app? Have you see increased sales as a result?".

Marketing would fall under the "business" part of the description.

  • "What have you tried" type questions usually don't work well in the stackexchange forum, since they invite discussion and there's no "correct" answer. – Wooble Sep 7 '11 at 11:25
