Proposal: Literature

We've reached the Commitment stage!

Finally the Literature proposal has the required number of questions with a score of 10 or more in order to advance to the next phase in its development.

At this point, the main challenge is to attract new people to commit to the proposal. I'm not entirely sure how to achieve this (perhaps the mere existence of a Discussion question like this will help?), so I'm calling for suggestions and possibilities for promotion.

How can we draw more attention to the Literature proposal?

No: please let's close the older question as a duplicate of this one, which is more relevant to the current situation. The older post is almost a year old and has no answers, but this one here is buzzing with activity and has actually succeeded in attracting lots of people to the Lit proposal. We reached 56% of needed 200+ reputation users. That means we need at least 43 more users who are already active on other SE sites. Go spread the word and create those community ads.

I and others have posted Community Promotion Ads for the Literature proposal on several sites which are similar enough in scope that a significant proportion of their userbases might be interested:

Each of these has reached the required score of 6 and therefore appear occasionally on the front pages of the respective sites. Hopefully these will help draw eyeballs and perhaps committers.

This is a good idea. I think also there should be one on EL&U, Worldbuilding, and RPG. We might also send emissaries to their chat rooms to let chatty regulars know about the proposal. I think those would be good populations to draw interest from.

@KitZ.Fox Yay, the one on ELU has reached a score of six! I also posted ads on Worldbuilding and M&TV. Haven't got an account on RPG, so I'll leave that one to someone else. Commented Sep 21, 2016 at 13:16

  • The Worldbuilding community ad reached six votes, RPG is at three votes.

  • @Helmar All of them now have enough votes to appear on the respective sites, except the RPG one. I happen to know one of the owners of the main RPG chatroom, so I'll ask him if he can help promote it. Commented Sep 25, 2016 at 15:56
  • For future advertising reference, Writing wouldn't be irrelephant either.

  • @BESW I thought Writers doesn't get Community Promotion Ads since it's still in beta? Commented Jan 12, 2017 at 21:10

Spread the word, use the community ad feature of the sites you already participate in. We just got the first referral from ELU :)

If you use this link for the image file, instead of uploading it to stack.imgur, then the % committed will appear on the ad and be updated in real time. Cf. the ad I posted on M&TV. Commented Sep 22, 2016 at 10:47
  • Damn, that is what I was looking for. Maybe it was a caching problem on my end, I just kept getting the following thing

There are plenty of literature forums already out there on the web, but our proposal has an advantage over many of these, which is the voting system.

I think placing advertisements in other literature forums, if they allow it, would be helpful. And if we are really bold, then we could ask permission to place fliers in libraries and/or bookstores.

For those enthusiasts of the proposed new site who are in academia, I would suggest a bold idea of socializing the proposal with literaryish departments of your local academia institution.

  • Post the ad on the bulletin board
  • Announce it at a student and/or faculty book club if one exists
  • Ask permission to announce at department meeting

Advertise to Overthinkingit.com leaders. They have a rather popular blog/podcast, if they buy into the idea, a single mention by them could drive up interest form people who never saw SE before.
