Proposal: Greek Language

Will questions about Greek culture be considered on-topic in this proposal?

For example: Will questions on the clothing worn in ancient Greece be on-topic?

I feel that Greek culture should be on topic - when in the context of interpreting Greek texts - especially in Hellenized regions.

Almost certainly not.

The proposal is Greek Language, not Greek culture. Therefore, any questions about Greek mythology, culture, or anything not related to the language, will be off-topic.

Questions about what clothing was worn in ancient Greece have nothing whatsoever to do with the Greek language. Therefore, they are decidedly off-topic.

On the other hand, if you were asking about the meaning of the word στολή, one might reference ancient Greek history to describe the true nuances of this garment.

As far as it is directly about the Greek Language, IMHO, it is on-topic. Anything above and beyond that is definitely off-topic.

  • Don't build the box too tight; that is, if the question/ answer/ or comment actually helps us to better understand the Greek, then it should be allowed for, and consider to be directly about the Greek Language,

There is a Greek mythology stack exchange, if that's useful to you, but I believe this should be strictly about the Greek language.

Actually the Mythology site is about all mythologies, not just Greek mythology. Apr 5, 2017 at 14:34

I think the only time it would be allowed is if the wuestion is related to the Greek language (say the question was like how did Greek culture influence the language) but like @Mithrandir commented, something like "What did ancient Greek citizens wear" would be considered off topic.
