Proposal: Signal, Image & Video Processing

Why is the name Signal, image and video processing? Even image and video are signals. Hence my suggestion is to name it as just 'signal processing' without putting unecessary emphasis on image and video.

The name of this proposal originally did not include video or image processing, but several people wanted to start up a separate group with image and video explicitly included. Rather than split the signal processing interests across multiple proposals, the name of this proposal was changed to include them.

I agree, we might in any case want something shorter for the sake of a web address. So perhaps something like signals.stackexchange.com would work nicely.

  • Good idea! Something short, sweet and inclusive is good.

  • I think signalprocessing.stackexchange.com would be better, primarily because we also want the URL to be informative, while not too long... Aug 13, 2011 at 19:08

You're technically right that images and videos are signals. But note the "technically". This is not how they are commonly referred to, and I would expect the name "Signal Processing" to prevent many image/video questions from people for whom "signal" does not spark the inclusive meaning.
