Proposal: Artificial Intelligence
By retrieval algorithms I mean like text search, (approximate) nearest neighbor search. Those algorithms are not usually found in the textbooks of AI but it seems to me that they are quite relevant.

Quite a few such algorithms are found in some AI textbooks, at least. So I believe they could fit here.
I think this question's answer will be closely related to NLP for how it applies here.

It seems the search algorithms in the book "Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach" are mostly about space search or local search (so in order to distinguish I used "retrieval algorithms"), and the nearest neighbor problem has many applications beside NLP, like image search and path finding. Anyways, I think the answer should be "yes" then :)– dontlooCommented Jul 3, 2016 at 10:47

Yes. I was vague in the "such algorithms", as there is no straight mapping. Good generic ideas that popped up in a domain usually end up some day contributing elsewhere, and their origins get blurred to the point it does not matter where they come from. By the way, for someone more than 25 years of age, "search" should feel a bit like magic or genius, or "artificial intelligence". But now, "googling" is "just" a common word, and probably not seen as AI by most... Commented Jul 3, 2016 at 23:48
