Proposal: Appliances

I think there's a need for a Q&A site for household appliances, but there's not always a black or white on what an appliance is, or to which extent a question there is fitting.

Two examples:

  1. What if I have problems with my TV? Is that an appliance? What about a computer monitor?
  2. What if I have to do some soldering to fix a problem with my appliance. Is that not more fitting for Engineering or Electrical Engineering?

Appliances are already covered pretty well on Home Improvement.

How is this going to be better/different?

That's an excellent point. I had casually dismissed it as a possibility without giving it more thought. I'll post a few questions there and see how the community responds. Jun 30, 2016 at 13:29
  • Sure enough, the moderator of Home Improvement has said it's indeed off topic: "This is likely off topic here. While we do cover some home appliance repair, it's typically only major appliances (refrigerator, range, dishwasher, etc.). Smaller appliances (toaster, griddle, blender, etc.) are off topic." • @PaulLammertsma - that's probably because the cost to repair a toaster is greater than the cost to replace
