The Deep Web proposal generated certain amount of questions related to I2P network. Now the site, being in private beta for 2 weeks, is closing down, because it didn't achieve the expected usefulness.

However there are still some useful questions which can be migrated into proposed I2P site as suggested by @str4d.

Therefore, is it possible that the I2P related questions can be migrated into new I2P private beta site to boost its start?

Which maybe the first exception to the general rule to not do that, since the questions and answers are still fresh (not much outdated).

  • (Not the right place, but IIRC you participated in the Deep Web Meta discussion about migrating the questions from the closed Deep Web SE to various existing SE sites. Do you know what happened with that? I tested a few questions that were mentioned in the Meta discussion, but they don’t seem to be migrated.)

    @unor It seems they haven't been migrated (not sure why). I've received only 2 notifications about migration to Tor (11741 & 11744), that's all. Maybe they weren't good for SU, or they didn't want to waste the time, as nothing was actually confirmed, and I didn't want to waste mine for asking about this either. I'll consider re-asking them when I2P or Darknet will proceed to beta.

The technical and timing issues aside (this isn't even a site, yet) — generally speaking, you don't want to start a new site with questions imported from elsewhere. If there is a good questions on the Deep Web for this site, you should simply re-ask it.

Importing a question from elsewhere means the question and answers wont likely have an owner without an account. The tags wont likely match. The content would be anonymous, so any notifications from users asking for followup or clarification go nowhere. The voting is largely meaningless; any reputation that should go to new community members desperately trying to establish leadership is lost. Folks aren't nearly as likely to post new answers to a thread that was completed elsewhere. The post may not even follow the standards trying to be established by the new community.

Essentially, you are loading up a site with a lot of typing and text without any of the experience, responsibility, or engagement that goes with it. It's a site with a lot of bulk, but no substance. It's just a bad idea.

That's why we don't do it.
