Proposal: Artificial Intelligence

The title says it all. Are we allowing questions about AGI -- as in, attempting to replicate the intelligence of humans with computers -- or any AI, including narrow AI? For example, the bots in a video game.

  • "AI that is only smart at one thing" is called "narrow AI" or "weak AI", however...those are the only types of AI that humans have been able to build. "True" AI (better known as "Strong AI" or "AGIs") have never been built yet, and since the "Narrow AIs" are pretty good at their assigned tasks, it's possible there will never be a demand for "Strong AI". • @TariqAli Yep, that's the word! Thanks! I'll edit my question now. (as for "strong AIs don't exist", hypothetical questions about them sure are on topic, so I was asking if they were the only kind allowed.)

Any AI, as long as it is about the intelligence of the AI

If the question is something like How can I beat the StarCraft AI, it should be closed. I don't even think that is on-topic at Gaming.SE, but I can't speak for that.

If the question is asking about how a certain video game AI deals with traps on the map, then it might go here. That is more subjective, maybe will get closed as unclear.

Bottom line: if the question is about AI in general, with a specific AI used as an example, then it is on-topic.
