Proposal: Stack Overflow (in Spanish)

So, this is my question. Maybe it has a technical reason, that the language support somehow avoided a 100% area51-based site creation process?

  • Not even 30 days in beta, and this site already exceeds the requirements for graduation. Why should it wait? – OldBunny2800 Dec 29 '15 at 0:50
  • @OldBunny2800 Because the SE is totally insane. The area51 process is only the illusion of a democratic process, in the reality the SE decides (mainly now Tim Post), and he does his task on an extreme untrustworthy way. – peterh says reinstate Monica Dec 29 '15 at 9:17

It's not quite a working site. Work surrounding getting the translations done was mostly coordinated in chat; they reached the point where they really need a meta site to continue at the same awesome pace of progress. Questions like which words should we use also need to be part of meta, as these answer questions that folks in the beta will be likely to have.

There also comes a point in a new international site where we have to stand it up on the public tier and test, test, test.

Juan will be contacting committers to the proposal to let them know the launch schedule in the very near future, worry not. And if you missed committing to the proposal, that's fine - you'll still be able to join following the link from Area 51 once it works.

tl;dr - It's "public" like a building still under construction, closed until some final finishing touches take place.

  • I am a little bit surprised. Do you think it is really a problem, if a word isn't 100% perfect somewhere, only 99%? Long threads should be started, what will be the really perfect word? Do you know Parkinson's Law? Btw, a thing which is "public like a building still under construction", isn't this what we call beta in the IT? – peterh says reinstate Monica Nov 16 '15 at 12:40

We're not going to wait until it's perfect, but we need to at least be past the point of 'we're pretty sure there's going to be no need to nuke the database because we screwed up on some string overrides' before we're going to put it in an official beta. And, well, there's still a lot of translation work going on. You're welcome to join that if you want, the chat room is linked from the Area 51 proposal. – Tim Post Nov 16 '15 at 12:57
  • Uhh! So I already understand the problem. I am so sorry. Good luck! – peterh says reinstate Monica Nov 16 '15 at 13:02
