Proposal: Arts and Crafts

The Arts & Crafts proposal currently includes wood carving in the examples of things considered on topic. However, the Woodworking proposal is now in Beta. Should woodwork now be considered off topic in Arts & Crafts since it now has it's own site?

Absolutely not.

Example: Coffee has got its own site now. That doesn't make it off topic on cooking stack exchange.

I also think that woodwork should remain on-topic in Arts and Crafts. I would certainly ask different questions on the two sites.

An expert on the Woodworking SE probably wouldn't be interested in helping me figure out a wood finish for my latest flea market find rehab project, but might be able to help me identify key tools that someone just starting out making furniture should purchase and what features are important.

  • Actually refinishing questions are perfectly on-topic on Woodworking.SE, and we have had a few already.

@rob Maybe it wasn't the greatest example. I think the difference is similar to the difference between English Language & Usage and English Language Learners. There's some overlap, but it's sorted out by what type of answer the asker is looking for.

I agree that woodworking should remain on-topic. Questions that get into finer details could easily be referred over to the Woodworking.SE but I can see many questions being applicable here. This forum seems more appropriate for the casual crafter seeking to accomplish something that would not be classified as "Fine Woodworking".

I think cabinetry is a good example of what should get redirected over to Woodworking.SE.
