Proposal: Computer Graphics

Some of you were here for the previous Computer Graphics private beta, which did not succeed. I'd like to see suggestions of what we have learned about how to approach private beta. Ideally separate suggestions in separate answers so we can vote on which are most useful/relevant.

The previous private beta did not succeed because the volume of questions and number of visits were not enough.
I believe this was caused by a lack of publicity.
Therefore this time we should advertise more this new site. This can be done via social networks for example.

That will definitely be important once we reach public beta. During private beta it is possible to invite individuals by email, but I don't believe a general link can be made to groups of people. Individuals would need to contact someone for a personal invitation. I suspect this is deliberately difficult for a reason. May 27, 2015 at 12:45

Yes, many active contributors are needed during the private beta. The previous private beta did not succeed because the volume of questions and number of visits were not enough. If this happens again, we will never reach a public beta.

I think it mostly depends on the people who commit before the private beta starts. Unless they ask lots of questions (including lots on meta) I don't think there is enough time to invite enough external people to make a difference. May 28, 2015 at 18:11
  • Yes. The fact is that there were not enough traffic during the private beta. As you write, this means there were not enough committers, or they were not committed enough. How to avoid that situation this time?

The number of committers needed to trigger a private beta is fixed, so all we can change is how committed they are - encouraging plenty of meta involvement and emphasising questions over answers, as we had plenty of answers last time. May 29, 2015 at 12:25

Does it work like this? Thank you for the info. Maybe I should already prepare lists of questions to ask when the private beta opens.

  • Which bit are you wondering about? You can see the target number of committers if you click on "more info" at the bottom of the percentage box at the top right of a proposal that is in commitment phase. May 29, 2015 at 21:39
