Proposal: Sex and Intimacy

Some people may be interested in the way porn is affecting their life or some other questions related too porn. Are similar topics allowed in Sex and Intimacy

This site will contain frank discussions stemming from largely clinical questions involving sexual activities between consenting adults. As long as the crux of the question is about the subject of sex and intimacy, it will probably be okay. But as a pragmatic matter, if questions start to delve too far into the subject of porn, it will likely be off topic. That's why I conspicuously closed this:

Is there something similar to "fair trade" pornography?

That's where a question crossed over from the biological/sociological expertise of sexuality to one about the porn industry and its content.

It would depend on the kind of question.

Consuming pornography can be part of a sex life. It can serve as an inspiration or turn-on to improve ones sex life, or it can lead to unfulfillable expectations and oversaturation making it worse. Also, pornography consumption can be a stress factor for relationships. I know relationships which suffered or even broke because one parter wanted to consume pornography and the other wanted them not to. There are also couples which like to create pornography themselves, which can be dangerous when the relationship ends ("revenge porn"). Also an interesting topic in my opinion.

However, outside of the context of a relationship I would not consider pornography on-topic. Questions like "Where do I find free [specific fetish] porn" or "Identify this porn actress" should definitely not have a place on this website.

I would also consider questions from performers on-topic regarding their technique. I believe that there are some interesting questions to ask, like how to sustain certain stressing sex positions you frequently see in pornography or how an actor can control their orgasm during a long scene. Health and hygiene would also be interesting in that context (Ever wondered why you never see feces in an anal scene in mainstream pornography? There got to be some cleaning technique the actresses use).

However, questions about the porn business itself (how to get into it, what wage to expect, what kind of porn sells best etc.) should be off-topic IMO.

Of course, porn is closely related to Sex (less to Intimacy though ;)) and there can be many on topic and good questions about it in the site.

For example, this sample question got 10 upvotes:

Can watching porn reduce your attraction or responsiveness to real partners? Does this affect men and women equally?
