Proposal: Engineering

I am wondering if I should start a product design site on stack exchange. Will the engineering site include a section on this? The process of an engineer is much different than the design process. Can we also include a product idea section where people can post their ideas? Then the engineers can check the internet for the existence of patents or products of similar nature.

Perhaps you could give examples of questions that could fit the SE format (which typically includes a definite correct answer), fits your concept of a design question, but is not an engineering question? Jan 2, 2015 at 21:35
  • I think as long as these questions require some level of engineering knowledge to answer, they should be on-topic for the most part. Jan 13, 2015 at 17:47

I would recommend deferring this decision until after the beta starts and we can observe how some product design questions "in the wild" are received, how well they are answered, etc. If it turns out they're not a great fit for a general engineering site we can have a meta discussion about whether they should be off-topic, and consider a separate A51 proposal.
