Steps to recreate:

  1. Go to create a new Arts Proposal.
  2. Type in 'Star Trek'.

There's a handy duplicate checker, and it detects (at the time of writing) a Star Wars proposal. What it doesn't detect is Science Fiction and Fantasy, which is an actual duplicate, and I think can feasibly be detected.

I suggest that the duplicate checker be expanded to search tags of SE sites, and if it finds matches, it offers those sites as possible duplicates.

  • While this would be nice, it would be somewhat unreasonable, imagine how long it would take to go over all tags in all site.

  • I don't think this is unreasonable at all. Even with millions of tags, an index could find matching ones nearly instantly.

  • It needn't even be all tags on all sites, the top 100 would probably provide a massive improvement.
