Is there any way to ask to be notified when a site goes live without actually comitting to participate in it? I need this because (a) I might not be up to participating in all the sites I'd like to, and (b) you can commit to a maximum of three sites.

  • My understanding was that "following" a site would do this for you. Am I mistaken? – Shane May 31 '11 at 18:01
  • @Shane, Sometimes I see a Follow button and sometimes I see a Commit button. When there's a Commit button, is there also a Follow button hiding somewhere? – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green May 31 '11 at 19:17

Once a site goes to the commitment stage, that becomes the default tab. The definition tag is still available, however. (See http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/1369?phase=definition for instance.) That tab has a separate "Follow" button.

When a new site enters public beta, the "followers" of the proposal will receive an email notification.

You can follow as many sites as you wish and you would be notified about each one, once they leave private beta.

  • @Robert, I can follow as many sites as I wish, but sometimes I can't see a Follow button. Sometimes I see a Follow button and sometimes I see a Commit button. When there's a Commit button, is there also a Follow button hiding somewhere? – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green May 31 '11 at 19:18
  • @TRiG: When a site is in commitment, you can switch back to the 'definition' section (upper, right-hand corner of the proposal). There you will see the 'follow' button. – Robert Cartaino May 31 '11 at 20:33
  • @Robert. Thanks. You're just too late though. Jon Ericson got in ahead of you. – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green May 31 '11 at 20:34
