Proposal: Economics

We are economists, let's reallocate upvotes (the distribution of votes per question is not Pareto Optimal). We can achieve a better outcome at zero costs!!!

In questions with a score of 11 or higher, the marginal utility of another upvote is zero; therefore it is optimal to remove useless votes and reallocate them to deserving questions with a score < 10.

Why does that feel like faking a balanced budget? Let me check my integrity first… ;)

Of course you are right @e-sushi, integrity is important. It was just an economic observation! This is an opportunity to think about why economics is dubbed the Dismal Science! In addition, you should notice that the Pareto Optimality is a natural optimum. Why otherwise we have a lot of questions rated at most 11? Incentives matter!

All my votes seem to have been maximized for marginal efficiency already :)

The marginal utility of every vote right now is zero. Assuming that your utility only depends on the success of this proposal. Jun 5, 2014 at 12:37
  • Uh, I'm a utility monster and I get hundreds of multiples more utils than every member of this economics stackexchange every time you give me an upvote. So I say nay.
